Class of 2012
Carneige Mellon University
And thank you USAPPS 2010 organizers 😀
You rocked my world
Congrats, Reza! Make full use of your uni experience!
Thank you Chen Chow!!
looks like not many people bother about LACs. shame.
(unless most on the list are gov scholars?)
Hi Loraine, you are right. Most of the students on the admit list are government scholars. We have been trying to make it a point to promote liberal arts colleges to Malaysians since the inception of the U.S. Apps workshops but we are still seeing very few Malaysians applying/getting admitted by LACs. This is driven by a few factors:
1) Government scholars are not allowed to go to a liberal arts college, therefore they normally don’t apply.
2) LACs are equally hard to get in compared to most top US colleges, and even harder especially if the students are applying for financial aid. Hence, very often we see cases where the students who try to apply to LACs are rejected presumably due to financial related issues.
If you have any suggestions as to how we can improve Malaysian’s application and admit rate to LACs, we would gladly hear from you at usapps2011[at]gmail[dot]com.
Best,
WunMin
P/s: I personally go to MIT, but I applied to a dozen of LACs as well and were lucky enough to receive offers from two, so I know how hard it is.
Ammar Faris and Yi Xiang,
Thank you and it is great seeing you guys reach out to those who got into your respective schools.
I go to UPenn and Noel goes to Columbia. Credits to Yik Lun (Stanford 14’) and Ching Yee (UC Berkeley 14’) as well and Wun Min for initiating it!
Hi all,
I am studying in UCLA currently.

Congratz and all the best to your college life.

Hey Tze Huey, I do know of two, though one is graduating this year. Do you want me to connect you with them?
Hey Wun Min!

Hi editor, I think you accidentally crossed out Jiunn Wen’s name. Jiunn Wen got admitted to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and University of Washington, Seattle but not Jian Cheng. Thanks.
Yeah. I only get accepted by 2 universities. I think the other two universities belongs to Jiunn Wen. Thanks for that, LCD.
Thanks for notifying us, LCD. We have already corrected it.
Hello, I would like to make a teeny weeny correction 🙂 I was not accepted at CMU, but merely waitlisted.
Edited. Thanks for notifying us, Reza.
Hi editor, I would like to notify that Erin Chuah’s name was crossed out just like what happened in Jiunn Wen’s case. Credits to Jian Cheng for noticing this. =)
Thanks, LCD for highlighting. Has it been rectified? Sorry for the mistakes as we transfer the names into this format.
Yes, it has been rectified.
Hello! I attended the workshop last year that held in Taylor Lakeside Campus and I would like to thank all of you who helped me throughout my application process!! I got accepted into University of Virginia, University of Michigan Ann Arbor and University of Southern California!!

Congrats Zuhair! Thanks a lot! We will be updating our list shortly 🙂
anyone accepted to Cornell
There are a number of people above who got accepted to Cornell – Ai Hui, Aishwariya, Darren, Jian Cheng, Zi Jing. There are at least another 2 more (who are not from the workshop) who got in.
Are you one of the admits as well? Or you plan to apply?
Hi,
My son, a Malaysian who’s graduating from a high school in U.S., applied and got into Cornell.
From our vantage point in the U.S., we can see that you are doing a first class job in helping Malaysians get into the top schools here. It has been a brutal year in terms of successful admissions into the highly competitive colleges.
I can say that you are doing a better job than many college consultants in the U.S. Both Cornell and Malaysia should be very proud of the terrific work you do. Kudos to you!
Keen,
Thanks for your kind words. We are just doing our little part to share what we know to fellow Malaysians. It is the kind of words from people like you that continue to spur us on to do this.
Congrats to your son for getting admission from Cornell!
If you have any question on Cornell, do let us know! Would be happy to share on it.
Will be visiting Cornell in a week’s time – it’s Cornell Day. Anyone in your group admitted to CAS?
I believe there are, although I can’t remember exactly which of them is going to which college. However, don’t think any of them would be flying all the way to Ithaca to attend Cornell Day.
It would be fun experience at Cornell Day!
Chen Chow,
You are right! Cornell day was fun. Cornell is gorgeous as Ithaca is gorges. Do you remember which meal plan you signed up for and which residential hall you stayed in during your freshman year?
You may give my email add. to parents/students who are going to Cornell. Just let me know so it does not go into my junk.
Also, let me know when your next workshop is. Would love to attend if it coincides with our balik kampung pilgrimage.
